De eerste vier moeten gaan over wat er in mijn proefschrift staat, de tweede vier zijn meer algemeen linguistisch (en komen uit de artikelen die ik heb geschreven).
1. Word order is never free.
2. In Makhuwa-Enahara, the element immediately following the conjoint verb form is c-commanded by the verb and its referent has an exclusive interpretation.
3. The cartographic model cannot explain movement for negative or altruistic reasons, such as remnant movement containing the verb in the inverted subject construction in Makhuwa.
4. It is misleading to call the detopicalised status of the subject in a thetic sentence “presentational focus”.
5. The similarities in the use of predicative tone lowering in some Bantu languages and the absence of the augment in others suggest a historical relation between the high tone involved in predicative tone lowering and the augment.
6. The non-subject relative clause in Makhuwa-Enahara is best analysed as a participial modifier.
7. Verb-subject constructions display a similar variation in subject agreement in southern Bantu languages as in Italian dialects (Manzini and Savoia 2002).
8. The use of the name “Bantu” in claims which do not involve the whole language family does not do justice to the complexity of the language family.

Joop:
Presenting a PhD thesis is never free as its tonal features may interfere with high-low differences through complex mechanisms which cannot be explained by Bantu predicative subjects practicing obfuscation. -
